The Fall

Summer Cleaning

Wed Jul 29, 2009, 5:25 PM
I'm always looking for more work. Talk to me aboout a project you'd like to complete, and I'll give you a bid.
.................................................

If you watch me...you're a stalker, but also, you might notice I moved more than half of my gallery to scraps. The reason for this is Steve Prescott (successful fantasy artist). I don't often listen to many people, just ask my girlfriend, but when I asked Steve for an all around critique of my work and he actually took the time out of his day to give me some advice, my ears were open. One of the tips he gave me was to clean out my gallery of the not so professional works. Basically, I've been using my DA account as my official gallery and I've had it for a few years. Some of my older works just don't hold up to my current standards...though my first gouache painting "My Girl" seems to be my best painting...love makes you do crazy things, like paint 4 years of experience better than you currently are.
Anyway, so that's why my gallery is all small now. Other tips from Mr. Prescott include (and this may apply to others...possibly you!):
>Improve on my drawing. This directly relates with why the picture "My Girl" is perhaps my best. I rarely use photo reference, but I did with that painting. The drawing was better, therefore the values were better, therefore the colors were better, therefore the painting was better.
> Stop using garish colors. Again, I don't typically paint or draw from photo reference. In real life Garish colors don't exist because when they do, objects around them reflect and blend with the color...making it fit in and not be garish. In a painting you have to paint those reflections, and I paint straight from the tube a lot of the time. Making my colors bright and not so blended together...thus we have garishness. using a photo as reference for what things should look like should stop the garish colors from finding their way into my paintings.

so I guess, with out really saying it, Steve told me to use photo reference.

Regarding custom work:
Tell me what you need done and I'll give you a quote.

I'm an excellent character designer, I'm great with acrylics and gouache, but I'll do just about anything in any medium! what isn't to love?

bottom line, if you commission me over others to do work for you, you'll get it cheaper for the quality, and you can get the original painting (if you get a traditional medium work); the value of which will appreciate over time AND I will never make prints of the work for my own benifit, so yours is one of a kind.

Ask me about a picture you want done, and we'll discuss it. AND if you live in the northern colorado area, You can request murals!!!

...........................................................
Prints and originals for sale:

Any prints sold will include my signiture on them along with a print number (I'm only going to do 150 of the same size on paper and 50 on canvas) print prices will vary depending on the piece, if you're interested, contact me and I'll give you a quote.

Any traditional medium artwork in my gallery is for sale at just $150 + shipping (with the exception of "Odious walk through Plegethan" which is an 8' tall painting that took 1/4 of a year to complete. it is $2000 + shipping), just ask about it if you're interested.
