Artist's Comments

I'm trying a lot of new things with my artwork, or rather, I have been and will be always...but more so now than usual. this is the second painting I've done with the wash technique of Jae Drummond [link]

This time I went lighter on the washes (which I felt were not as successful with gouache as they were with watercolor...and I'm using gouache), and after the initial washes of yellow, purple, and blue I basically went totally dry on dry.

I'm still disappointed with my ability to paint a convincing structure, and I'll probably leave all the structure drawing to Photoshop and other digital painting methods in the future.

Lastly, if you're viewing this piece, I'd like you to answer the question "what do you think is happening in this picture". the measure of this paintings success depends on the viewers perception. I won't say anymore in fear of swaying your opinion.

for me, mister dude guy in the coner is riding a rather large bird downward at quite a fast pace.

I'd say a)you know me pretty well, and b)you have a positive outlook on life...also, I think c)picture accomplished.

I thought he was on a statue/bird gargoyle thing like the ones on the Empire State building and looking down at the view...
But after reading Larrys comment, I see the bird now.

They call me Mellow Yelloooow, (quite right-ly)

The contrast with dark and light is amazing!

It's my impression or there is a creepy hand trying to catch the guy or a bird too?
In a place like this only the birds can see the horizon. >.o

"People die if they're killed."
Redundancy! Because someone has to state the obvious.

Time is the best teacher, too bad it also kills all of its students.

I should probably say that I meant the image to be taken a few different ways. you and James are both right. And fortunately, you both saw one of the things I intended to show.

Thank you.

interesting perspective on the painting... Thanks for the comment.

wow the more I looked at this painting I thought of more perspectives. I'll add a different one.... What if it was a kid climbing a light post looking up at the buildings and it wasn't a wing that you could see but someones hand trying to pull him down... A mother perhaps with a freaky long finger. :P... Hehe I like this piece :P
:iconrazwit:
wow...it actually looks like that...That is one I didn't even think of. crazy, and GOOD IMAGINATION!
:iconcheaty:
I see some dude with a red loincloth other a suit riding a hover bird.
